Patient Focus: Optimizing Outcomes

While Dr. Megerle has worked extensively in basic surgical research in the past, his scientific focus today lies fully on directly optimizing the treatment outcomes for his patients.

He continuously and systematically monitors the postoperative progress of his own patients by tracking Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). Through this detailed, evidence-based data analysis, parameters such as pain relief, functional mobility, and quality of life can be measured objectively. This consistent approach ensures that surgical strategies are not based solely on experience, but on validated, real-world clinical success.

Medical Technology

Data Science & AI in Medicine

Modern surgery is evolving rapidly, and precise analytics have become essential. Dr. Megerle is actively advancing the integration of data science and artificial intelligence into everyday medical practice. The goal is to support complex clinical decisions through extensive, algorithm-based data analysis to determine the best possible therapy for each individual patient.

As a professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), he is also deeply committed to education, teaching medical students programming languages such as R and Python. This ensures that the next generation of doctors is excellently prepared to confidently apply modern data analytics for the objective measurement and improvement of clinical outcomes.

Global Standards

Academic Leadership

Beyond the operating room and the university lecture hall, Dr. Megerle actively evaluates and shapes global standards in reconstructive surgery.

He serves as Editor-in-Chief for Hand Surgery at Germany's leading specialty journal, "Handchirurgie, Mikrochirurgie, Plastische Chirurgie" (Thieme). In addition, he is a sought-after reviewer for renowned international publications, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, ensuring that only the most rigorous, high-quality research influences the surgical community.
